Bring two kinds of photos
First, bring one or two inspiration photos showing the shade, placement and overall effect you like. Next, share clear photos of your hair as it looks today—in natural light, from the front, back and sides if possible. A reference picture explains the goal; current-hair photos help a stylist understand the starting point.
Images can look different because of lighting, editing, extensions and styling. Treat them as a direction rather than a guaranteed exact-match result.
What your stylist needs to know
- Previous color: Tell us about box dye, salon color, bleach, toner or color correction, even if it was months ago.
- Extensions: Mention tape-ins or any other extensions, plus whether your appointment includes your natural hair only.
- Hair length and density: These affect the time and amount of work involved.
- Daily maintenance: Share how often you are willing to return for color upkeep and how much time you spend styling.
- Your deadline: If your color is for a wedding, photoshoot or special event, tell the salon the exact date.
Balayage, highlights or all-over color?
Balayage describes a way of placing lighter pieces for a blended look; highlights can create dimension with targeted lightening, while all-over color changes the overall shade. Your stylist may recommend a combination depending on the contrast you want, your previous color and your hair's condition. Read our balayage vs. highlights guide for a detailed comparison.
How long does a color appointment take?
There is no reliable one-size-fits-all duration. Consultation, lightening, processing, toning, washing, styling and a possible haircut can all affect appointment length. A substantial color change or corrective service may need more than one session. If you need to leave by a certain time, mention that before the appointment is confirmed.
Will you know the price in advance?
Color pricing depends on the service selected and can be affected by length, density, current color and the result you want. For a personalized estimate, contact our team with your current-hair photos and inspiration photo. The hair service menu shows available services; the salon can explain what your individual appointment would involve.
Prepare for your color appointment
Keep your hair history accurate and ask the stylist whether to arrive with clean, dry hair or follow another preparation instruction. Avoid trying to correct your color at home shortly before a consultation. If your scalp is irritated, tell your stylist in advance; they may recommend waiting or a different approach.
Frequently asked questions
Can a dark starting color become very light in one visit?
Sometimes significant lightening is possible, but the safe and realistic result depends on your existing color, previous processing and hair condition. A staged plan may be better.
Should I book a haircut with color?
If you want a new shape or layers, mention both services. Combining appointments may be possible depending on availability and the time needed.
